
Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah tours Nzema East Municipality to inspect the progress of work on government initiatives in the area. He first inspected the Axim Youth CENTRE which comprises a 5,000-seater sports stadium, hostels, space for indoor games, and stores. The phase II of the work which is about 85% complete will be completed in November 2022.

He proceeded to inspect works on the Axim fishing harbor. Consultants told the Minister that the marine works, which include reclamation of sea land, sea defense walls, boat/ship landing site is 100% complete. The other works which comprise the construction of a Daycare center, cold store, rest room, changing room, fish market, net mending area, etc. are 60% complete.

The Minister and his entourage which included the Regional Commissioner of Ghana Revenue Authority, Customs Division, Ag. Commander for the Western Command of the Ghana Immigration Service, Regional Economic Planning Officer, and Regional Budget Officer among others were given a summary tour of Fort St. Antonio in Axim. The Fort, the first to be built in West Africa after the Elmina Castle by Europeans is a grave historical monument that the regional administration is determined to reap full benefits from for the development of the Nzema East Municipality.
