Medeama Sporting Club, winners of the 2022/2023 Ghana Premier League season on the 20th of June paid a courtesy call on the Western Regional Minister at the Western Regional Coordinating Council.
The victory of Medeama Sporting Club marks exactly 47 years since a team from the Western Region won the league. The minister who also doubles as MP for Takoradi Constituency made a symbolic cash donation of GHC 47,000 to them.
Addressing the playing body and management of the club, the minister expressed belief in the youth of the Western Region, echoing that the fortunes of the region can be turned around in their time.
He charged football club owners and administrators to approach the game with a business mentality, as that is the only way success can be chalked.
“There is something that I have said consistently over a period of time, even before I became regional minister, and one of them was that, we should put a business mentality behind the football teams we have in the Western Region. In fact, if you observe the work that Samartex (FC) put through to qualify if you see what Medeama has done to make us happy, then it means that if all the traditional teams in the region listen to what I have been saying 3 years even before I became a regional minister and work with it, they can all make progress.”, he said, emphasizing that we cannot continue to rely on past glories.
