OUR ECONOMIC SURVIVAL HINGES ON THE CRITICAL ROLE OF WESTERN NAVAL COMMAND – HON. JOSEPH NELSON

Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, has emphasized the crucial role of the Western Naval Command in safeguarding Ghana’s territorial waters as part of its core mandate. Speaking during a familiarization tour of the various security commands in the region on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Hon. Nelson highlighted the importance of the command in ensuring the security of businesses and social activities connected to the sea.

According to him, Ghana’s economic survival is directly linked to national security and the social protection measures implemented by the government. “The Western Naval Command has consistently carried out its mandate in a way that allows all Ghanaians to go about their daily activities with freedom and assurance, without fear or anxiety,” he stated.

Acknowledging the challenges outlined by the command’s leadership, Hon. Nelson pledged to work closely with them to address their concerns. “Despite the challenges, I know you are up to the task, so let’s keep our eyes on the ball and continue to maintain security,” he assured. He further stressed that ensuring national security would create an environment of peace and stability for citizens. “When you provide security, the rest of us (citizens) can also have our peace,” he remarked.

While commending the command for its dedication, the Minister also noted that there were other critical security matters that needed to be discussed privately. “There are some other areas to talk about beyond here,” he hinted. He urged the command to remain steadfast in its efforts to contribute to the progress of the region. As Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), he assured them of his commitment to honor all invitations extended to his office.

Commodore Emmanuel Ayensu Kwafo, Flag Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command, assured the Minister of their unwavering commitment to protecting the national interest. He also reaffirmed the command’s cooperation and solidarity with Hon. Nelson in his role as Chairman of REGSEC.
