Western Regional Minister Commends UMaT for Introducing Ghana’s First Degree in Spatial Planning

The Western Regional Minister has commended the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Essikado Campus, for introducing Ghana’s first degree programme in Spatial Planning, describing it as a timely and innovative step toward addressing the country’s growing urban and environmental challenges. The commendation was made during a courtesy call by first-year students of the programme

The Minister noted that many parts of the country continue to experience recurring flooding and other environmental challenges due to poor spatial planning, unregulated development, and environmental indiscipline. He expressed optimism that the new programme would produce highly skilled professionals capable of promoting sustainable urban development and improving the planning and management of communities across the country.

He further emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Regional Coordinating Council and UMaT in advancing effective spatial planning initiatives that will help build safer, more resilient, and well-planned communities.

The Minister encouraged the students to approach their studies with dedication and a sense of purpose, urging them to become agents of positive change and contribute meaningfully to shaping a more sustainable future for Ghana.
