Western Regional Minister Orders Evacuation Following Fishing Harbour Fire

A major fire outbreak at the Albert Bosomtwi-Sam Fishing Harbour, triggered by a rain-induced mudslide that brought down an electricity pole onto premix fuel tanks, destroyed several structures, makeshift stalls, carts, and two vehicles. The fire, which occurred on Sunday, June 21, was brought under control after several hours through the combined efforts of the Ghana National Fire Service, the Port of Takoradi Fire Unit, the Ghana Air Force, and local fisherfolk.

During a visit to the scene on Monday, June 22, the Western Regional Minister, accompanied by the Omanhene of Essikado, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, and officials from the Port of Takoradi, assessed the extent of the damage and identified additional risks posed by unstable slopes and vegetation overlooking sections of the harbour.

As an immediate safety measure, the Minister directed the suspension of all commercial activities at the Food Market and adjoining areas and ordered the evacuation of traders from the affected zone to prevent further loss of life and property.
