Nzema East Selected for Global Youth in Climate Action Initiative

The Western Regional Minister has commended the Nzema East Municipal Assembly for its selection as one of 300 cities worldwide to participate in the Youth in Climate Action Project, making it the only Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDA) in the Western Region to benefit from the initiative. Supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the programme provides funding opportunities and capacity-building support to prepare young people to successfully apply for climate action macro-grants. The initiative places youth at the forefront of climate action, empowering them to drive sustainable environmental solutions within their communities.

Speaking at the launch, the Municipal Chief Executive, Herbert Dickson Kuah, highlighted the Assembly’s remarkable improvement in public financial management compliance, rising from 13th to 5th position regionally between 2024 and 2025, and from 232nd to 132nd nationally. He also noted that the Assembly has consistently integrated climate resilience into its development agenda through sustainable waste management initiatives and environmental sanitation campaigns.

The Western Regional Minister encouraged the youth beneficiaries to take full ownership of the programme and become champions of climate action, emphasizing that environmental sustainability requires collective responsibility and sustained community participation.
