The Western Region has called for stronger professional and institutional collaboration to address land administration challenges and create a more orderly and investment-ready environment for development.
The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, made the call at the 40th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Valuation and Estate Surveying Division of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors in Takoradi.
Held under the theme “Advancing Valuation and Estate Surveying Practice through Professional Collaboration for National Development,” the conference highlighted the need for closer coordination among the Lands Commission, spatial planning authorities, MMDAs, traditional authorities, valuation professionals and other stakeholders within the built environment.

The Minister noted that uncoordinated land acquisition, competing claims, ownership disputes and inefficient land administration can create uncertainty for investors, communities and public institutions.
He therefore called for stronger coordination, credible property data, transparent valuation processes and effective spatial planning to promote orderly development, protect legitimate interests and strengthen investor confidence.

The Minister also highlighted the potential of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), digital mapping, property databases and data analytics to improve land information management, increase transparency and reduce uncertainty in land and property transactions.
He reaffirmed the Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment to facilitating collaboration among relevant institutions towards a more coordinated and sustainable approach to land management.
As the Region expands, effective land administration will be critical to ensuring that land serves development today while protecting the interests of communities and future generations.
