The Western Region is strengthening partnerships with private-sector institutions to create an enabling environment in which local businesses can start, grow, create jobs and compete beyond Ghana.
The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, made the call when he welcomed the Telecel Business Runway to Takoradi as part of the company’s 2026 SME Month, held under the theme “Connect to Growth: Unlock More.”
The Minister said sustainable economic transformation requires collaboration among government, private capital, financial institutions, technology providers and Ghanaian entrepreneurs. He noted that government interventions in skills, finance, enterprise development, digital capacity and export growth must complement private-sector initiatives.

At the regional level, he highlighted efforts to revitalise the Western Region Investment and Business Centre as a one-stop platform to facilitate investment, improve access to information and help businesses navigate the institutional environment more efficiently.
He said Telecel’s focus on connectivity, digital tools, mentorship and business solutions provides an important complement to these efforts by helping SMEs improve productivity and compete in an increasingly digital economy.
The Minister challenged entrepreneurs to move beyond building businesses simply to survive, urging them to formalise their operations, strengthen governance and financial systems, invest in skills and technology, and identify opportunities to add value to resources produced in the Region.

He pointed to opportunities across oil and gas, mining, agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, tourism, logistics and the Takoradi Port ecosystem, stressing the importance of converting these opportunities into Ghanaian-owned businesses, jobs and wealth.
He also encouraged Telecel to sustain its engagement with Western Region businesses beyond SME Month through mentorship, digital skills development, market linkages and practical enterprise support.
The engagement reinforced a broader development objective: building a Western Region where businesses can start here, grow here, create jobs here and compete successfully in Ghana, West Africa and the global marketplace.
