RCC DEEPENS ENGAGEMENT WITH KARPOWERSHIP GHANA

The Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) has deepened its engagement with Karpowership Ghana Company Limited following a tour of the company’s operations to gain a firsthand understanding of its activities and explore opportunities for stronger collaboration.

The engagement focused on strengthening the relationship between Karpowership, the WRCC and communities within the company’s operational area, particularly in areas of community development, environmental sustainability and local economic participation.

Power remains fundamental to Ghana’s economic development, supporting industries, businesses and essential public services while creating the conditions for investment and job creation. Karpowership’s contribution to the national power generation mix therefore makes its operations strategically important to Ghana’s energy security and the stability of power supply.

With an installed capacity of 470MW and dependable capacity of 450MW, the facility remains a significant thermal generation asset. Its utilisation of Ghana’s indigenous natural gas also highlights the importance of harnessing domestic energy resources to support national development.

The WRCC acknowledges Karpowership’s contribution to Ghana’s energy sector and believes that the partnership can extend beyond power generation to create broader and more tangible benefits for communities within the Region.

The Council remains committed to facilitating constructive engagement and partnerships that promote community development, environmental responsibility and inclusive local economic participation.

The shared objective is clear: to keep Ghana powered, support productive economic activity and ensure that communities hosting critical national infrastructure also benefit meaningfully from its presence.
