The redevelopment of Appiatse has entered its final phase with the commencement of construction of 69 additional housing units, marking another major step towards restoring the community following the January 20, 2022 explosion.
The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, joined the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to cut the sod for Phase Three of the redevelopment project.
The final phase will provide 69 housing units, comprising 17 one-bedroom, 23 two-bedroom, 14 three-bedroom, 12 four-bedroom, one five-bedroom and two six-bedroom houses.
Beyond the numbers, the project represents a pathway home for families who lost houses, livelihoods and loved ones in the disaster. The Minister described the development as an opportunity to restore hope, dignity and a sense of community to affected families.

The redevelopment has also been designed around principles of sustainability and resilience, with the vision of creating an Appiatse that is safer, greener and better prepared for the future.
The Minister noted that reaching this stage required securing suitable land and revising earlier designs to reflect the needs and specifications of beneficiaries. Their participation, he said, was essential to ensuring that the final homes respond meaningfully to the realities of the families who will occupy them.
With Phase Three now underway, Appiatse moves closer to completing a redevelopment journey shaped by loss, patience and resilience. The final chapter is now being written, not simply in bricks and mortar, but in the restoration of homes, dignity and hope.
