Functions of the WRCC

In accordance with Section 188 of Act 936, the WRCC performs the following functions:

  • Ensure peace, stability and public safety in the Region.
  • Monitor and co-ordinate the implementation of policies, programmes and projects.
  • Review performance and co-ordinate public services generally in the Region.
  • Co-ordinate and formulate the integrated plans and programmes of all Regional Departments and MMDAs in the Region; and harmonize these plans and programmes within national development policies and priorities for approval by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC)
  • Provide backstopping support, especially where the MMDA is deficient in skills and workforce.
  • Ensure efficient management and judicious use of public funds in the Region
  • Review, approve and monitor all expenditure and budget statements of the District Assemblies; o Set up Internal Audit Units and Audit Committees.
  • Establish internal controls and ensure compliance with laws, regulations and ethics within the WRCC and at the MMDAs;
  • Undertake procurement of goods, works, and services as well as other procurement related transactions in accordance with the established regulations; and o Perform such other functions as may be assigned to it by the Government.
