On February 4, 2026, the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, together with the Acting Coordinating Director, Ms. Rachel Fosua Sarpong, paid a working visit to the Nzema East Municipality, where they engaged traditional leaders and inspected ongoing projects.
Discussions with chiefs in Axim highlighted key community concerns, including support for the government’s 24-hour market initiative, the need for amendments to the Chieftaincy Act, completion of the mini-fishing harbour project, rising youth drug abuse, and the lack of public sanitation facilities.

At the Municipal Assembly, the Minister emphasized strict enforcement of sanitation measures to prevent cholera outbreaks. The team also inspected the ongoing sea defense and breakwater project, which is 45% complete, with assurances of completion within the planned timeline. The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting coastal communities from tidal waves.
