The Western Regional Coordinating Director, Rachel Fosuaa Sarpong has called on Coordinating Directors of the 14 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Western Region to intensify efforts towards addressing sanitation challenges confronting communities across the region. The call was made during a meeting held with the Coordinating Directors to assess the progress of the region’s administration and discuss key development issues affecting the various assemblies.
She expressed concern about persistent sanitation challenges and urged the assemblies to take proactive steps to improve cleanliness in their respective jurisdictions. According to her, maintaining a clean environment requires commitment, proper planning, and continuous enforcement of sanitation regulations.
“Sanitation remains a major concern, and we must all go out there and fix the issues confronting our communities,” she charged.
The meeting also touched on the proliferation of temporary structures along major roads and within communities, particularly those used for commercial activities.
The Western Regional Coordinating Director acknowledged that completely eliminating temporary business structures may not be realistic due to the socio-economic role they play in supporting livelihoods. However, she stressed the need for proper regulation and planning to ensure these structures are organized and contribute positively to the aesthetics of communities.
