In a strategic meeting Mr. Frederick Agyemang, the Chief Director of the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC), along with key representatives from the Ghana Health Service, engaged in pivotal discussions centered around the Accelerating Social and Behavioral Change (ASBC) project.
The ASBC project, spearheaded by Mr. Joshua Kwaku Ofori, comprises a consortium of five partners, including FHI 360 leading as the prime, National Organization for Social Action and Change (NORSAAC), SAVANA Signatures, GHANA COMMUNITY RADIO NETWORKS, and the local advertising agency MOLENLO.

A significant focus of this project lies in its collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), an organization renowned for its commitment to fostering international development, enhancing healthcare, and education, and addressing multifaceted societal challenges across the globe.
Speaking on the ASBC initiative, Mr. Ofori emphasized its mission to catalyze positive shifts in societal attitudes, beliefs, and actions at an accelerated pace. This strategic endeavor aims to induce favorable behavioral changes and promote progressive social norms, addressing critical issues encompassing public health, environmental sustainability, gender equality, and more.
Highlighting their operational scope, Mr. Ofori elucidated on the project’s expansion strategy. While initially focusing on fifteen districts across the Northern regions of Ghana, namely North East, Upper East, and Upper West, the ASBC project has now expanded its reach to the Savana and Western Regions. Its primary objective remains bolstering the Ghana Health Service through the establishment of robust community engagement networks, offering extensive capacity-building support.
Acknowledging the pivotal role played by the health promotion division of the Ghana Health Service, Mr. Ofori underscored their collaboration, providing essential technical assistance and reinforcing community engagement endeavors.
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Ofori reiterated the ASBC project’s dedication to advocating for social and public change, particularly emphasizing its commitment to enhancing health and well-being through robust community engagement initiatives.
The collaborative efforts between the Ghana Health Service and the Western Regional Coordinating Council signify a significant stride towards fostering sustainable development, fortifying healthcare and education, and addressing prevailing social and environmental challenges. Both entities stand united in their pursuit of creating a more equitable and prosperous world for all.
