GREEN GHANA DAY;WESTERN REGION TO PLANT 500,000 TREES

Western Regional Minister, Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah has announced that the region will plant in excess of 500,000 trees as part of efforts to green Ghana under an initiative by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

The minister made this pronouncement at an event at the Western Regional Coordinating Council on Friday, June 11th to plant trees, as part of national efforts to green Ghana, dubbed #GreenGhanaDay.

He underscored that even though the region was allocated 250,000 seedlings from the 5million earmarked nationally, he has made request for 250,000 more.

“Western Region like you Know has been a major contributor to national GDP, including forests and forest products, and I believe that the investment you are making today) will bear good fruits). Originally, I was informed that we are doing about 250,000. I asked them that they should top it up to a minimum of 500,000 trees”, he said, further hoping that the region could reach a million as soon as possible.

Also in attendance were the Omanhene of Essikado, Nana Kobina Nketiah V, executive director of GNPC Foundation, Dr. Dominic Eduah, members of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and officials from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
