Head of Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur on Wednesday 31st August paid a 3-day working visit to the Western Region.
The former Member of Parliament for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem constituency first paid a courtesy call on the Western Regional Minister, Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, then proceeded to meet the staff of the Local Government Service at the Regional Coordinating Council.

Addressing the gathering, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur explained that it was important that once in a while he goes to the grassroots to inspect work going on at the various assemblies in the country.
He took the opportunity to highlight some of the ills in the service which is impeding the progress of the country. Nana Ato Arthur bemoaned staff’s punctuality to work, explaining that the service is putting plans in place to introduce a facial recognition clocking system to check lateness.
He further expressed in no uncertain terms his displeasure about the staff of the Local Government Service refusing postings to areas they considered rural. “I was there looking at the statistics of your staff distribution; how can you have 13 ADIIB ranked officers in STMA; doing what? How can you have 11 ADIIB ranked officers in EKMA; doing what? While when you go to other places, we do not have staff; and some of you want to decide where you want to work”, he said.
He reminded staff that the service will post persons to areas where their services are required. Adding that personnel who do not report in 10 days to their station, shall forfeit their appointments.
Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur reechoed that there is a circular which instructs that staff who serve 5 years at a station be reshuffled within the region where they are based. In the case where one has served at least 10 years, the officer will be posted to a different region to work. He was quick to add, that for one to qualify for coordinating director, he/she must have served in 3 different regions and at least 5 assemblies.
He further charged staff of the Local Government Service to take their appraisals seriously, and not wait till it was too late, as it may affect staff themselves.
The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, and his entourage shall visit to inspect work at Nzema East Municipal Assembly, Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, Ellembelle District Assembly, Jomoro Municipal Assembly, and Shama District Assembly.
