Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson has declared the region as the right investment destination in the country. Hon. Joseph Nelson made the declaration during an engagement he had with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado Ketan Constituency, Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, on Monday 24th February 2025. Explaining why private sector investment is required in driving the development agenda of the region, the Minister said it is imperative and very significant. “You know that the state of the economy is such that you cannot rely solely on the central government for everything”.

The description follows the geographical disposition, natural resources, and human capital, all endowed by the region. Consequently, he called on both domestic and external investors to make their way into the region to take up investment opportunities currently available. Considering the natural resources available in the region, and the level of projects required to spread development, he said, private investment would definitely shore up the government’s efforts in driving Ghana’s economy with the right investment made in the region. “We have to look out for others who are also concerned about investment and development, so we work together”, the Minister said. For him as the Regional Minister, he said the development of the region with investment as the driving force remains his priority. “The commitment to the development of this region is top on the agenda because the challenges are not lost on me”.


Explaining more about his knowledge of the region and its structures, Hon. Joseph Nelson said he is aware of the dynamics. “The truth of the matter is that I have come into this office as a three-term regional secretary and so the challenges and development of this region are not lost to me”. Addressing the current state of the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) which has assumed cracks, dilapidated structures with dirt and messy posturing, the Regional Minister said his administration would see to its renovation. “To think that this is the current state of the Regional administration, being put in this sorry state, is rather unfortunate and very sad” he lamented.
On her part, the Member of Parliament for Essikado Ketan Constituency, Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah informed the Minister of her commitment to collaborate effectively with him to push the development agenda of Essikado Ketan. As the host Constituency for WRCC, she reiterated her desire to attract investors and investment into the region with emphasis on her Constituency which is currently reeling due to underdevelopment and growing unemployment. She also promised to collaborate with the Minister to address the infrastructure gap in the Constituency.
