LEADERSHIP OF SANKOR & CAPE THREE POINTS PAY COURTESY CALL ON REGIONAL MINISTER

Chiefs and Assembly Members of Sankor and Cape Three Points in the Ahanta West Municipality have on Monday, September 6th paid a courtesy call on the Western Regional Minister, Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah in his Office, Sekondi.

The purpose of the visit as explained by Nana Bediako III was to draw the attention of the Minister to the deplorable state of roads in the area. He underscored that the Chiefs and Assembly Members in the area have had to deal with daily complaints from their people about the roads, especially now that the rains have set in.  

Even though he admitted haven learnt that the project has been awarded to a contractor, the levels of deterioration have now completely cut off some communities for months now, as they are inaccessible by road. Residents have to endure trekking long distances, amidst carrying heavy loads. He minced no word as he said that the situation has angered the youth in the area, as they intend to embark on a demonstration against the government.

On his part, Nana Tanoe, Chief of Alebonkata commended the Regional Minister for the opportunity to meet with him. He further stressed on the deplorable state of the roads, which he says requires urgent attention. He recounted how sick people and women in labor suffer due to the bad condition of the roads. He pleaded with the leadership of the regional administration to fix the roads.

Western Regional minister, Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, in response to the Chiefs and Assembly Members of Sankor and Cape Three Points assured that the government is not oblivious of the situations they have had to deal with in the area. He further assured that funds are fervently being sort to as a matter of importance see to the fixing the roads in that enclave.

He buttressed the point by alluding to portions of President Akuffo Addo’s speech in Tarkwa when he visited the region September, 2021, “… we know that funding for Sankor to Cape three Point roads did not happen, but we will make it this time round. We will deliver no matter where we need to find money, after all, we are in the year of roads part two”.

He impressed on the leadership of the communities of Sankor and Cape Three Points to give him up to the moth of September 2021, as he sought more information about the progress that has been made so far. He again through the chiefs discouraged the youth about their intention to demonstrate and rather urged them to send prayers the way of the contractor to mobilize the required resources to begin the work in earnest.
