PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO HONORS FRONTLINE HEALTH WORKERS FOR OUTSTANDING COVID-19 CONTRIBUTIONS

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has recognized approximately 200 frontline and Allied Health professionals in the Greater Sekondi Takoradi area for their exceptional dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic. These individuals were among the 1,000 awardees who will receive the same recognition across various districts in the Western Region. They were presented with a certificate of recognition, signed by the President, as part of the 2023 Presidential Awards for COVID-19 Frontline Workers. The initiative aims to honor all frontline health workers who played a crucial role in containing and combating the spread of COVID-19 in Ghana.

Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, expressed appreciation for the selfless efforts of these health workers in optimally containing the virus. He commended the awardees, stating, “We pride ourselves that 99.1 percent of COVID-19 cases in the region recovered, which means that less than one percent lost their lives through the virus… Indeed, this is a laudable achievement, and thanks to you, spirited individuals for this achievement.”

Dr. Yaw Ofori Yeboah, the Western Regional Health Director, expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the challenges health workers face in protecting and saving lives. He assured that health workers would continue to work diligently to ensure the safety of residents in the region from COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

Awulae Angama-Tu Agyan, Paramount Chief of the Gwira Traditional Council, who chaired the occasion, encouraged professionals to apply similar approaches in combating other diseases such as malaria and HIV. He emphasized the importance of educating the public on best practices to sustain gains and improve overall health indicators.

Awulae Angama-Tu Agyan praised the President for acknowledging the efforts of these patriotic citizens and affirming the need for sacrifice for the nation’s well-being.
