REGIONAL MINISTER COMMISSIONS POLICE STATION AT WASSA AFRANSIE

Western Regional Minister, Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah on Thursday, July 29th commissioned a police station for the people of Wassa Afransie in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality in the Western Region.

The commissioning of the police station comes in handy to assist the police service in curbing the spate of robbery incidences in the Amenfi area.

Addressing a durbar to officially open the police station for use, Hon. Western Regional Minister, Dr. Darko-Mensah was highly elated with the community’s initiative to construct a police station. He used the opportunity to reecho projects that the NPP government has undertaken in the area to make life easier for the people. He made specific reference to the construction of the 55km Adesu- Afransie road, Akropong to Adanse (11.2km), Diaso – Ajumako  (23.5km), Bawdie- Dewrampong, Beposo- Dewrampong- Denkyira Assikuma (65km), Afransie-Jedu (11.5km), Ajumako- Jukwa bridge.

He assured the people that he is not oblivious of the security challenges in the Amenfi area. He informed the gathering that he, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and other stakeholders are working hard to increase the number of police stations in the area, with 2 of them in the offing for commissioning.

He donated 200 bags of cement and an amount of Ghc 2000 to the construction of staff bungalows for police officers who shall be posted to the station to work.

On his part, Regional Police Commander DCOP Mr. Victor Adusah-Poku commended them for their communal spirit which had made the construction of the police station possible.

He underscored that the siting of the police station at Afransie relieves the station at Wassa Akropong of some of the cases from areas such as Tamakloe, Hemang, Asuogya Krobo, Wantram, and its surrounding communities. More often than police response has not been the best largely due to the number of cases the Wassa Akropong had to be dealing with on a daily. A challenge he is hopeful that the Police Station at Wassa Afransie would help curb.

He further encouraged the people to live in peace with police officers who will be posted to the area, while charging his men and women to be civil in their dealings with the people of Wassa Afransie.

The people of Afransie further showed great communal spirit as they joyously made cash donations geared towards the construction of bungalows for police officers who will be posted to the Afransie station.
