TEACHERS SHOULD BE WELL MOTIVATED TO ENHANCE THEIR TEACHING ABILITIES – PRESIDENT OF GNAT

The Ministry of Education has today, organized the Ghana Teachers Prize Awards 2023, an award scheme that seeks to motivate teachers for higher performance and the respect the teaching profession should enjoy.

Held at the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi, the Ghana Teachers Prize Awards 2023 was themed “The TEACHERS WE NEED FOR THE EDUCATION WE WANT: THE GLOBAL IMPERATIVE TO REVERSE THE TEACHER SHORTAGE”.

Speaking at the Ceremony, the President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Reverend Isaac Owusu said that it is essential for teachers to be well-motivated to teach effectively and efficiently.

According to him, this should be done, because their competencies and contributions to the advancement of the human resource growth of countries by the products they churn out from the basic schools, colleges of education, universities, and other tertiary institutions are unmatched.

Rev Isaac Owusu also Reminded the Ghana Education Service of some Key items that need to be taken care of.

  1. Payment of the 20% gross salary for teachers who accept postings to underserved areas should be prioritized.

2. The refund of the over deducted GH¢44.55 in respect of the laptops be expedited as well as the supply of the remaining ones done.

3. To operationalize the commitment of the Association to the Profession, students, and the community, the Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT, has supported Fifty (50)needy school children in Bosomdo, in Shama District of the Weste: Region and Wuwuso D/A Primary schools, in the Wassa Amenfi District of the Western Region with Uniforms, Footwears, school bags and stationery.

He added that the association has also earmarked the construction of a two-classroom pavilion for the Kweku Bosea D/A primary school in the Bia District of the Western North Region.

He commended the National Teaching Council and the organizers of the 2023 GTP for such a thoughtful and appreciative program.
