For several decades, residents of Supomu-Dunkwa in the Shama District of the Western Region had been without good portable drinking water but thanks to government they can now heave a sigh of relief as they access good drinking water through their pipes this year.

Commissioning the project on Thursday 3rd December 2020, Her Excellency the Second Lady Samira Bawumia said, the Akufo-Addo led government is a listening one that cares for the people and development of the country at large. She commended the Member of Parliament for ensuring the project was successful.

Dr. Ato Panford (MP) on his part disclosed that the pipe-borne water will be routed through the existing pipelines of the Community Water and Sanitation Department for efficient management of the facility.

The Chiefs and People in the Community had to drink from the contaminated Pra river caused by illegal mining activities. In August last year, the Regional Minister Hon. Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah in the company of the MP of Shama Dr. Ato Panford cut sod for the construction of a 4.5-kilometer water pipline from the Daboase Water Headworks to the community worth GH¢580,907.19 secured by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

Additionally, a 4-inches pressure pipeline has been laid from the Daboase water treatment plant to Supomu-Dunkwa as part of first phase and plans underway to extend it to Asemasa No.1 in the second phase of the project.
