WESTERN REGIONAL MINISTER INAUGURATES RUBBER PROCESSING PLANT UNDER 1 DISTRICT 1 FACTORY INITIATIVE.

Western Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Takoradi Constituency on Wednesday, February 26 inaugurated a rubber processing factory in the Ahanta West Municipality under the 1 District 1 Factory initiative, on behalf of vice president H.E Mahamudu Bawumia.

Presenting a speech on behalf of the vice president, Dr. Kobina Okyere Darko-Mensah appreciated the challenges that GREL and the SIFCA Group had to endure and commended the group for staying on course.

He further reiterated the Akufo Addo Government’s commitment to keep working at making the Ghanaian business environment even friendlier to the private investment. “We also want the private sector to operate in a predictable, stable business environment that will allow the private sector to invest, expand, and be profitable. Because that is the best way to creating jobs and opening opportunities for our people. The government will therefore further commit to reviewing and\or amending all relevant laws and regulations that all too often stifle investments and the flow of business and transactions”, he said.

In his welcome address, Jean Louis Billion, SIFCA Administrator & Former Minister for Trade & SME Promotion in Ivory Coast, touted GREL’s leadership in the natural rubber industry with the nucleus of its operation spread across 90 communities in the Western, Central and Eastern Regions, with a concession size of 21,4076 hectares. He added that the inception of the project adds up to the 3412 direct jobs that GREL provides citizen of Ghana.

On his part, deputy minister for Trade and Industry, Robert Ahomka Lindsay, considering that the SIFCA is private Ivorian Group, observed that the investment is a good reflection of what the continental free trade seeks to achieve in Africa.

Municipal Chief Executive for the area Henrietta Mary Eyison could not hide her excitement for the investment in her jurisdiction. She relished the opportunities it presents to the Municipal Assembly in accruing more revenue to meet its developmental needs.

Also in attendance were Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, head of State Enterprise Commission, the French ambassador to Ghana,Anne Sophie AVÉ and the paramount chiefs of Lower Dixcove, Lower Axim, Nsein and Nzema East.
